High Performance & Passive Solar Strategy for a Marshall Fire Rebuild
BOOK A FREE CONSULTATIONAbout the Project
The HD Project is a Marshall Fire rebuild in the Louisville/Superior area of Colorado, developed around Passive House principles. Its Viking window and door package combines high thermal performance with a higher-SHGC glazing strategy designed to make useful passive solar gain from Colorado’s sun.
Project Overview
Objective: Create a high-performance Viking window and door package based on Passive House principles, with a strong thermal envelope, useful solar heat gain and glazing details suited to the project’s architectural design.
Outcome: A coordinated specification combining Viking SW14 windows, SW17 in-swing doors, an Innova Smart Sliding door and triple glazing with all panes tempered and a higher SHGC.
Key Project Requirements
Window & Door Systems Selected for the Project
The HD Project uses Viking SW14 windows, SW17 in-swing doors and an Innova Smart Sliding door, paired with triple glazing in which all panes are tempered and a higher-SHGC glass package supports the project’s passive-solar strategy.
Viking SW14
(Outward-Opening Window)
Selected for the project’s window openings to support the high-performance thermal-envelope goals associated with its Passive House principles.
Viking SW17
(In-Swing Door)
Selected for in-swing door openings as part of the coordinated high-performance envelope.
Viking Innova
(Smart Sliding Door)
Selected as the project’s sliding-door system, adding a large glazed opening while keeping the door package aligned with the home’s performance and architectural goals.
Higher-SHGC Triple Glazing
(Triple Glazing)
Triple glazing with all panes tempered and a higher SHGC was specified to balance heat retention with useful passive solar gain from Colorado sunlight.

Project Review & Passive House Specification
E Windowtastic worked closely with Baseline Design and Hammerwell to select and detail a window, door and glazing package around the project’s Passive House principles and high-performance envelope goals.
Window & Door Package Coordination
The SW14 windows, SW17 in-swing doors and Innova Smart Sliding door were coordinated as one Viking package, with attention to thermal performance, opening requirements and architectural integration.
Solar-Gain & Opening Details
The higher-SHGC triple-glazing strategy, all-tempered panes and extra glazing beads were detailed to support passive solar gain while maintaining the project’s high-performance envelope goals.
