High Performance, Cost-Efficient Design & Expansive Views at Grand Lake
BOOK A FREE CONSULTATIONAbout the Project
The Grand Lake Project is a high-performance mountain home designed and built by Western Peak Design & Development. Its window and door strategy balanced thermal performance, competitive pricing, everyday functionality and broad landscape views, using fixed glazing for more than 90% of the window openings, with operable and sliding openings only where needed.
Project Overview
Objective: Create a high-performance Viking window and door package that balances strong thermal performance and competitive pricing while preserving access and the home's expansive views, with air circulation handled by the ERV system.
Outcome: A coordinated Viking V21, SW17 and Gulu package that balances thermal performance, functionality, aesthetics and cost, using fixed V21 windows for more than 90% of the openings and operable units only where required.
Key Project Requirements
Window & Door Systems Selected for the Project
The opening strategy was intentionally simple: V21 windows across the project, with more than 90% of the window openings fixed, operable V21 units where specifically required, SW17 in-swing doors for access and Gulu Lift & Slide doors for larger openings.
Viking V21
(Outward Swinging Windows)
Used across the project, with the majority of the window openings fixed to support lower U-values and more competitive pricing, while operable V21 units were used only where required; air circulation and cleaning are handled by the home’s ERV system.
Viking SW17
(In-Swing Doors)
Used for the project’s door openings as part of the coordinated Viking wood-aluclad package, maintaining high-performance construction alongside everyday access.
Viking Gulu
(Lift & Slide with soft close feature)
Selected for large sliding openings that connect the interior to the surrounding landscape, with soft-close functionality highlighted as part of the project package.
